GLASS JARS - reuse 

Glass jars are so useful, They can be used to store food in, in the pantry, in the fridge and even in the freezer .  So Don't Recylce them  Reuse them. . If  you have too many you can GIFT  them to someone who makes, preserves. If you don't know anyone, then put them on Buy Swap and sell or Buy Nothing Page , they really go very quickly,  especially in preserving season.  Some Bulk food stores accept them too for customers to reuse.  And if your lids have gone funny well get some more online. or via Wholefoods in Ferntree Gully.

Reduce 

Buy more things from  bulk food  stores  ( Olive oil, vinegar, dish washing and laundry liquids)  to avoid glass or plastic jars and bottles in the first place.

Make your own nut butters, jams and pickles and put in reused jars.  

Reuse 

Reuse jars for storing pantry  foods from the Bulk food store in like rice, flour, nuts and dried fruit.

​

Store leftovers and  in glass jars  in the fridge or freezer. 

​

Give jars to friends who preserve. make a gift put home made cookies in a decorated jar.

Put your Jars on Buy Swap and sell or Buy Nothing page the are very popular

Evolution Wholefoods UPWEY will also take glass jars with lids for customer use.

​

Ask at your local bulk food store if they want jars or bottles.

Yes you can freeze food in glass Jars,  When I first tried this I was worried about breaking the jar, now i love it and you can see whats inside 

  • The main thing is to leave head space for liquid to expand when freezing.

  • I also leave the lid loose until it is frozen just in case.  

  • You can also cut food up like red peppers and freeze on a tray ( with baking paper ) I use a glass tray then put them loose in a jar. 

  •  I also freeze things in icecube tray like  tomato paste then put in a glass jar
