POLYSTYRENE
We all end up with some polystyrene packaging when buying appliances, this CANNOT BE RECYCLED IN THE KERBSIDE BIN but it can be recycled. Polystyrene is 95 % air and can be reduced down to a fraction of the mass via the muncher at Monash Transfer Station pictured below. The machine literally munches and melts the packaging compacting it for efficient transport to the recyclers. Hills recycling will collect clean block polystyrene packaging and take it to Monash Transfer Station ( reasonable amounts) from householders Unfortunately we cannot take trays, buds or cups or provide regular service for businesses ( see business recycling)
REDUCE
The only way to avoid polystyrene is to buy second hand. It is heartening to see more manufacturers using molded cardboard instead of polystyrene.
REUSE
If you have the polystrene buds, peanuts , try advertising them on buy swap sell as people with small businesses are sometimes happy to use secondhand packing material. Other wise landfill. If you have a business, consider using cornstarch buds as these break down in water.
RECYCLE
Hills Recycling Kallista only.

or To Polyfoam in Dandenong, you must also make prior arrangement here and the polystyrene must be 100 % clean.

ALL POYSTYRENE MUST BE CLEAN to be recycled, the best way to keep it clean is leave it in the box it came in and bring it to me asap. If it is clean it can be recycled.
