Over 100 million pairs of shoes are brought into Australia each year; most of which we can predict end up as landfill. Do you wonder what to do with your shoes .( My sports shoes are generally worn all the time and become garden shoes, then they become beach/river shoes, then landfill ) BUT now they can be recycled too. The Australian Sporting Goods Association in partnership with Save Our Soles plans to recycle 100 tons of sporting shoes in Victoria as part of a pilot for Australia. Bared Footwear has also partnered with Save our soles and all types of shoes can go there. (see details below ) If your shoes are still in good wearable condition they can go to op shops. Donate quality shoes that you would be happy a friend to wear.. Some businesses have donation or recycle options. see below) Your old SOCKS and SHOES can also now be recycled via UPPAREL, even your Gumboots can be recycled. New Tights can now be recycled with Flora and Fauna and legwear.

Lightly worn sports shoes can be donated to Shoes for Planet Earth locally at Fit Gym 15 station st Mount Evelyn to be sent to people in need in Australia, and overseas, eg homeless, shelter crisis centres, indigenous communities orphanages , disaster recovery, ( no tears, holes and clean please . gold coin donation per pair. )

SAVE OUR SOLES - in partnership with The Australia Sporting Goods Association accept sporting shoes at Rebel sport stores and Athletes Foot at Fountain Gate, Knox and Eastland Chirnside park For other locations and details on accepted shoes

Recycle your Socks UPPAREL will recycle your old socks. Purchase a $15 satchel from them and send in your old socks and get a voucher. for spending on socks. SHOES and other clothes can also now be recycled via a paid for pickup service Items need to be clean and packed in a cardboard box. Many shoes are sent for reuse. Recieve a voucher for spending with Upparel or Target. You can even send your Gumboots with your clothing pack, or drop these directly to Bata Shoes In Morninton where they will be recycled into new gumboots ( 50 %)

when purchasing a new pair of work boots from Totally Work Wear, bring your old work boots for recycling and you can get a discount of $15 on new work boots. The rubber and leather is ground up and used for rubber flooring and playgrounds etc metal is also recovered

you can Take Back your old ETIKO sneakers and thongs for recycling at theirBrunswic store store or post back.
The rubber soles are ground up and used in outdoor furniture by a melbourne company. .Etiko is working toward a closed loop incorporation of the rubber in their shoes.
